THE DOMESDAY BOOK OF DOGS
Dung-heap Dog
This breed was first mentioned by Dame Juliana Berners in "The book of St. Albans" as the 'Mydding dogges' (or midden dogs in modern English). The dog was used as a farm guardian and received its rather unattractive name because the farmyard where the dogs lived was usually home to the midden or dung heap.
